This past week I took a trip to LA for the Kent State University study tour. I went with a group of other fashion design and merchandising students and we stayed in Santa Monica. Every day of the week we had a little different schedule and plans. We got to see a lot of art museums, tourist sights, fashion companies/headquarters and the beach. We also got to do some shopping and eat at local restaurants. Overall a very nice and informational trip!
MY GROUP
.
Here is a cute picture of us all together infront of the famous pink wall in LA. It was so nice to meet everyone who came on the trip and spend the week with them!
JAMES GOLDSTEIN RESIDENCE
.
One day we went to see the James Goldstein residence in Beverly Hills area. It was a very cool experience to get to see this whole home and surrounding area with amazing architecture. He has for example a tennis court and a night club below it in his residence, which is super interesting! Goldstein is also really into fashion and owns some interesting designer pieces that we got to see.

SANTA MONICA BEACH
.
Our hotel was couple minutes from the Sant Monica beach. We took some nice morning and evening walks along the beach enjoying the sun and view. We tried to see the sunrise one morning but the marine layer was too thick to see anything unfortunately. With the pier and lively scene of shops and cafes we were able to find morning coffees and breakfast along the beach street too. This nice beach view with the nice palm trees was a nice change of scenery from Ohio areas.
AG JEAN COMPANY
.
– AG Jeans is a premium denim and knitwear house leading the sustainable manufacturing movement with innovative technology and eco-minded processes. –
For one of the corporate visits we got to go to Adriano Goldschmied headquarters in South Gate. It was overall a very interesting and informative experience. We got to meet with the design directors for women’s and mens clothing. They took us on a tour around the office and manufacturing area. AG jeans has a very cool approach to doing business, they are a vertical manufacturing company which means they produce all of their own products in the same building as they have all their offices in.
RODEO DRIVE
.
One of the highlights on one of the days was walking around Rodeo Drive. We didn’t do any shopping for obvious reason but it is so much fun window shopping and looking at luxury items in all the stores there.
FOOD PLACES
.
We ate breakfast and got a lot of good coffees from local coffee shops in our area like Side Car and Blue Bottle.
RETAIL STORE VISITS
.
During the week we also visited a few retailer stores around Santa Monica where we got to meet with the store managers. First one was with Patagonia where we got the speak with the store team and learn everything about the brand and their values. Then we went to Alo Yoga where we spoke with the store manager who was telling us about the corporate offices of the brand in California and opportunities there. Lastly we met up with the manager of Oakley who was very informative and showing us around the store and their products.
VANS HEADQUARTERS
.
A very cool experience was visiting the Vans world headquarters in Costa Mesa. We got to meet with the merchandiser, shoe designer, color specialist and someone in the marketing department. We got a tour of the whole office which was so cool, they get to skate board in the office spaces and outside in the few break areas! While touring the offices we got to see the mock stores and talk to a visual merchandiser and customer experience specialist. He let us into some of the secrets and strategies they use in the Vans stores. Everyone was wearing different pairs of vans and really seemed to love the brand.
In conclusion, my recent trip to LA for the Kent State University study tour was an unforgettable experience filled with enriching encounters. As I reflect on the experiences and connections created during this trip, I am filled with gratitude for the invaluable lessons learned and memories created. This journey has not only broadened my horizons but also reminded me of my passion for the dynamic world of fashion.
